What automotive cybersecurity covers
In the EU, every new vehicle registered since July 2024 must come from a carmaker with a certified cybersecurity management system under UN Regulation No. 155, and other countries that apply the regulation have similar rules. UN Regulation No. 156 does the same for software updates. The engineering standard behind both is ISO/SAE 21434, published in 2021. Sources UN treaty record for Regulation No. 155 and SAE ISO/SAE 21434.
The companies on this list sell into that work in four ways. Some make software that runs in the vehicle, such as intrusion detection, secure gateways and key management. Some run vehicle security operations centres that watch whole fleets for attacks. Some help carmakers and suppliers manage vulnerabilities across the software in each vehicle, often from an SBOM. Others are service firms that do threat analysis and risk assessment, penetration testing of ECUs, infotainment and chargers, and the testing and consulting needed for type approval.
When you compare them, check which part of that work each one covers, which standards and regulations its services map to, and whether it has tested vehicles or components like yours.
